Land Claim
Our Land Claim is an Aboriginal Title land claim. Essentially what this means is that we assert we did not sign any treaty so our land is unceded land.
We were in the court process but now are in what is termed, "Preliminary Discussions".
There are 3 portions to our Land Claim..( a) Compensation for loss of use....( b) Land... ( c).. Part "D" which includes jurisdiction and self government.
Due to confidentiality agreements with the 2 levels of govt I cannot disclose details in a public forum. However, I can say we are making progress. Also, I can say this: We have been successful in removing logging from all lands we may be interested in. We have also been successful in getting ENDM to withdraw new staking from the lands we may be interested in. ENDM has also placed a mining caution on all lands surrounding the six communities involved in the land claim. We will provide updates to new council.
Bottom line is... we are making progress but there is still a long way to go.
I wish I could say more, but both Canada and Ontario are not ready yet to announce details to the general public.

We are also looking at the protection of our traditional traplines as OMNR is constantly trying to erode our rights from our people. It is a constant battle. Through the land claim we will gain control of wildlife resource management so that local Hunters and Harvesters have more control.
